Doctoral students may request for an assessment for transfer of credits of approved results from another Swedish or foreign university within their doctoral education (including, e.g., WASP). Master courses taken during the PhD even if reported in Ladok must be approved by the examiner using the same procedure. It might be possible also to acknowledge courses that were taken before the student was admitted to doctoral studies; see further details below.

For all these types of courses, please download the Transfer of credits form, fill it in (one per course) together with your examiner and send it to phdadm.cse@chalmer.se and we will report the credits in Ladok. Have in mind what kind of course you want to have transferred, all fields in the template might not be necessary.

Credits from prior studies

If a student has more credits in the previous studies than needed according to entry requirements to PhD studies, it might be possible to transfer some of these credits to the doctoral education. These courses should be relevant for the specific research that the PhD student is conducting on their studies. In particular, general background of the field of studies (computer science or computer engineering) should not be transferred. The procedure to transfer such credits is to discuss the issue and the courses at a follow-up meeting and to document it in the resulting established individual study plan from that meeting. Please ensure that the approval appears clearly in the summary of the meeting.

There is a general expectation that such transfer of credits will reduce the total duration of the doctoral studies, which are calculated to include one year for 60 credits. For example, a transfer of 15 credits comes with an expectation to graduate three months earlier.
