The department of Computer Science and engineering is a joint department between the two universities, Göteborgs Universitet (the University of Gothenburg, GU for short) and Chalmers Tekniska Högskola (Chalmers university of technology, Chalmers for short). You may wonder what does this mean? Simply:

At Chalmers there is only one top level node, the university, and directly under the university we have all the departments. One of those departments is CSE

At GU the top level is the university, and under the university lies the faculties. Each of these faculties have a number of departments. The faculty that CSE belongs to is called the IT-faculty. In the IT-faculty there is also another department called Applied IT.

Note that this is just structural. There is only one CSE department, with just one Head of Department etc. but it exists at the same time at both universities. However, it can be good to at least have heard this once since we have representatives at department, faculty and university level.

In addition to this we have four different division within our department, that each have one or several units.

Now, how does this affect you?

Not that much, but there are some points:

The main thing is that your affiliation (no matter of which uni you are employed at) will be a bit weird and long. It's "Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg" if you're wondering, which uses up a lot of space on all the papers and some systems won't accept it. But you should use it, no matter which university you are employed at and yes always exactly as written, in that order. (so Chalmers first even if you are GU) This among other things, has to do with how our research contributions are calculated for some metrics. If we use different affiliations they won't count as coming from the same place, and so "we look less important" because our contributions are scattered over several different affiliations.
- You also should use the joint logo anywhere it applies. (Chalmers, GU)
- Same for the joint presentation templates wherever it applies.
The other main thing is that there are some different routines that you need to follow depending on your employment, most of which is found on either Intranätet (Chalmers) or Medarbetarportalen (GU). For instance it differs how to reimburse Friskvårdsbidrag (your wellness benefit).
