Format

The exam will be done on campus, using a computer, using the Inspera platform, and thus follows the rules of Inspera exams (https://www.chalmers.se/en/education/your-studies/plan-and-conduct-your-studies/examinations-and-other-summative-assessments/). Some of them are reproduced in the two paragraphs below. In particular the Safe Exam Browser will be required.

Bring your laptop to the exam hall. There will be electrical sockets in the room but, just to be sure, make certain your computer is fully charged. It is best to use your own computer but if this is not possible, you may be able to sit the exam in a computer room, space permitting. If no computer room is available, you must sit the exam in writing.

If you need to use a computer from the computer room, please contact the Examination Administration Office well in advance of the examination session. In your email, state your name, examination code, examination date and course code. Send email to tentamen.stodet@chalmers.se

Permitted and not permitted aids

During the exam, you will be able to use the self-practice platform in sandbox mode test your code.

Any attempt to circumvent the Safe Browser environment is considered cheating. In particular AI tools (ChatGPT, ...), communication tools (chat, mail, social media, ...), using a search engine (google, ...), or consulting any other website (such as python manuals or guides) is forbidden.

You can bring one sheet of hand-written notes and consult it at your convenience during the exam.

Programming exercises

The main part of the exam are programming exercises. The scope of these questions is largely the same as what is covered by labs and self-practice. These questions will be similar in style and scope to the exam samples found in this module, even if these relate to another course code. However, you won't need to use external libraries (matplotlib, numpy, tkinter, ...) for the exam. If a question depends on an external library, the necessary information regarding its relevant functions will be provided in the question.

Bonus question

In the first exam instance, there may be an additional theoretical question on some topic seen during the lectures (about 5 percent of the possible total points).

Grading criteria for programs

The programs written will be evaluated for correctness, readability and efficiency. To get full credits, you program must...

work for all valid inputs;
be understandable by the grading person;
demonstrate understanding of the course concepts (see last section of Lab Introduction);
be in the best possible complexity class (see lecture 12 for what this means).

Partial credits may be awarded for partial solutions.

Unless explicitly specified in the question, it is not necessary to check for incorrect inputs.

Using external libraries is not allowed unless specified in the question. In particular, don't use itertools.
