Ceiling installation project for a student fair

Is anybody interested in contributing to an installation in the roof at the Kunskap&Framtid Student Fair 23 November? It has to be a small project, since we are close to the date already…

There will be a new design for the University of Gothenburg booth for 2023. There has been a bureau involved with some ideas, but they haven’t found a good solution for the roof installation. I think students (and staff) in interaction design might come up with some simple but efficient solutions.

I was thinking of blue plexiglass for example, cut in wave shapes, and lit up by very simple LED lights. Or something completely different… just some cord maybe. It would be interesting to have some detector which made the lights differ in strength. Maybe it is a bit too complicated, but it would definitely be more interactive 😊

The size of the metal structure in the roof: 8x12 meters (will be rented from the fair)

2023 ”Sustainable conferencing literature review”

Background

In order to live and work more sustainable and lessen global warming, we need to decrease travel, especially air travel. Currently, video meetings are the primary method for remote collaboration and online meetings. These video meetings have low level of presence, they are often experienced as boring, and they don’t provide usage of body language in a spatial context, such as pointing at objects or standing close together in groups. The opportunity is primarily to replace many physical meetings with online meetings. But video meetings needs to be utilized in the most efficient way, which is especially challenging when hybrid meetings are attempted, and in the long-term virtual reality (VR) meeting applications can complement or replace video meeting applications when appropriate. VR gives a fundamentally different level of social presence.

Project description

The work in this project will be a literature review study, primarily qualitative analysis of gathered texts. Most of the text gathering have already been done (as a part of a Chalmers seed project), and what is now needed is going through all the texts and categorize and summarize the content to create a full overview. The step after that would be starting to write the actual literature review, which could be done together with the researchers (Thommy Eriksson and Mafalda Samuelsson-Gamboa).

The steps of the project would be the following.

Read up on literature on thematic analysis and systematic literature reviews.
Gather additional literature
Read additional literature (about 20-30 texts)
Qualitative analysis of all texts (about 140 texts), coding to a predefined set of categories
Further development of the coding categories, based on the findings

The purpose with this project is to provide a theoretical foundation for future research and funding applications. We will most likely require that the analysis is done in either Nvivo or MaxQDA.

Previous work

The supervisors have gathered about 120 papers and articles, and organized them. All of these have had abstracts and conclusions read and annotated, in some cases the full text. Keywords for further literature search have been drafted, as well as a first version of coding categories.Special prerequisites

No previous skills are required, but an interest in sustainable development, online meeting applications, and qualitative data analysis is needed.
