Guidelines for teaching during reading period 1

The courses are divided into three different categories.

Category 1: Courses available to international students. (These are basically the courses where the language of instruction is set as English which includes all courses at the advanced level.)

These should be given completely remotely.

If after the start of the course you can ensure that all students are in place in Gothenburg, then you can move the course to category 2.

Category 2: All courses given for year 2 or higher and not belonging to category 1.

These can be given completely remotely. However, the examiner may propose to have teaching on campus if it is possible to implement it in accordance with the national guidelines in force at the time. Such a proposal is first discussed with the viceprefekt to ensure that they are in line with the decisions taken. If there are small courses with less than 50 students, they can in principle be given entirely on campus.

Category 3: Courses given for year 1.

These will to a large extent be given remotely. In particular, all elements with a large group such as lectures for more than 50 students take place at a distance. On the other hand, the examiner should include some type of component on campus that will help the students to enter the studies, if it is deemed possible in accordance with the applicable national guidelines from the Public Health Authority. Such a proposal is first discussed with the viceprefekt to ensure that they are in line with the decisions taken.

Number of students per room

We cannot have more than 49 students and 1 teacher in the same room and that it must not be too crowded in the room. The guidelines from the Faculty of Science say that "not too crowded" means that there must be no more than 1/3 as many people in a room as compared to the normal limit. The guidelines from Chalmers will not be more strict.

In particular, this means that if you have a course with less than 50 students where all students are in Gothenburg, you can basically have all the teaching on campus. However, you should avoid having moments where you get too close to the students, so some adjustment is probably required compared to ordinary arrangements.

All our classrooms at MV will be marked with the maximum number of students. It will also be marked how they are expected to sit.

Examples of teaching that can be done on campus:

• Lectures for a maximum of 49 students in a room with at least 3 times as many places as the number of students
• Demonstration tutorials, preferably with elements where the students themselves work on the tasks before they are demonstrated, for a maximum of 49 students in a room with at least 3 times as many places as the number of students
