Web conferencing rules

The up-to-date schedule for the course activities is present on your Home page on the VLE. Click on the link in the VLE timetable (lecture or a consultation session) to join webcast. In order to maintain an order, your mic would be muted as soon as the lecturer signs in to the meeting. Use Chat button to communicate with the lecturer.

Getting assistance

The teaching on the VLE platform provides you with all necessary information and tools to practice questions, study theory and watch lectures. The scheduled online consultations are intended as the time for you to ask questions: this assumes that you already tried the corresponding study before you attend the consultation. If you do not have any questions and you are getting consistently correct answers to the VLE questions, you need not attend the consultation.

If you do have a question, the procedure is the following. You request an assistance by "raising a hand": click on the icon labeled "Participants" at the bottom centre of your screen. At the bottom of the window on the right side of the screen, click the button labeled "Raise Hand." When your turn comes, you will be invited to join a virtual "breakout room" with the teacher:

Join the room where you can chat, write on the provided virtual whiteboard or share your computer screen if needed. This is not seen by the others. Once your questions are answered, you should leave the breakout room to the main session to allow the teacher to serve other students.

Unfortunately, sharing your handwritten notes is tricky. A suggestion is to have a separate webcam to show them, there are many non-expensive models available now. The best solution would be to use a graphical tablet with a stylus (or another device acting this way, like a connected iPad with Apple Pen). Then you can easily write on the zoom provided whiteboard, share iPad's screen or share Microsoft OneNote which is available to you as a Chalmers stident in Microsoft Office suite. If your teacher suggests, you may also photograph your notes and send it to the teacher via zoom chat, by email or via a common chat program. Think in advance how you could transmit information most efficiently in your partiular setup.

There could be a situation when the next consultation is far away but you have a blocking question which does not allow you to proceed without sorting it out. In this case, email to your teaching assistant, we aim to answer you as soon as possible.
