Welcome to a course where we will discuss and explore world views and the responses to sustainability in industry. Sustainable development has become an issue to industry in the same pace that information and financial flows have become global. News travels fast and the visibility to society has increased which puts new demands on industry. The responses from companies to the sustainability challenge is one part of the course.

Sustainability’s three dimensions is often expressed by the triple bottom line, TBL. In this course we focus on companies’ environmental dimension and their responses to challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity or other environmental scandals or concerns. The success of the environmental work in a company is the sum of how well the company succeeds to manage internal as well as external matters in relation to environmental issues. Different theories, strategies and methods in environmental management will be introduced and discussed from a social constructive perspective of the firm. Environmental management is also a research domain where some scholars focus on the strategic dimensions and others on sustainability accounting. We will explore both in the course.

Looking forward to see you!
