Course purpose

The aim with the course is to give the student basic knowledge of ports and distribution nodes management, organisation and operation. The student will after concluded course have increased the knowledge of ports/distribution nodes infrastructure and logistics and the need of adequate security. Further the student will increase the awareness of how ports and distribution nodes can contribute to the sustainable development goals.

Course design

The course is based on lectures and an assignment.

The assignment will be introduced September 1, 2022 and presented October 13, 2022 and October 22, 2022

Lectures is grouped in the following areas:

  1. Port management and organisation
  2. Flow and handling of goods
  3. Security, safety and law
  4. Port facilities from ship owner's perspective
  5. Port development

Learning objectives:

- Explain port management, organisation and operations.
- Explain ports' and distribution nodes' infrastructure and logistics (berths, storage, handling, documentation etc)
- Explain port security
- Explain ports' and distribution nodes' contribution to UN's sustainable development goals (no.9)
