Organization and learning activities
The course is organized into two phases with work shops in phase 1 (lp3) and project work in phase 2 (lp4).
Overview of the schedule:
Phase 1 (lp3): W5-6: Workshop 1: Acoustic instruments W7-8: Workshop 2: Musique concrète W8-9: Workshop 3: Music and sound perception W10,12: Workshop 4: Electronic sound synthesis |
Phase 2 (lp4): W13-22: Projects in groups May 28: Final presentations June 6, 17 h: Deadline submission of final reports |
Examination
To pass the course the following need to be fulfilled
- At least 3 approved workshops
- Approved workshop: active participation of 80 % of the time incl. assignments and presentations
- Full participation in phase 2
- Attendance of final presentation
- Approved project work incl. report (phase 2)
- The project in phase 2 determines the grade
- Bachelor and master students are graded according to separate standards
- HISS: Helhetsintryck, innehåll, (struktur, språk)
- Originality/creativity
- Presentation

Workshop 2 : Musique concrète

- The tools of concrete sound: Technology as generative constraint, from the 1950s till today, lecture with a lot of music examples.
- How to make sound and compose with it: Object musicianship and recording technique, lecture/workshop

- Extended musique concrète, lecture. Q&A about your ongoing pieces.
- Workshop: Introduction to sound editing and mixing (using Reaper.fm), optional if you are already experienced with DAW software.
